English: On the 18 of October, 1846, here, at Szécsenyi park landed the first ship (Kisfaludy) on Lake Balaton, on it's first journey from Balatonfüred to Kenese. The wooden Kenese port, planned by Clark Ádám was inaugurated by count Szécheniy István upon his arrival on the Kisfaludy. Located on the Northeast coast of Lake Balaton, Széchenyi Park is the entertainment center and open-air theater of the town where numerous cultural events, festivals and exhibitions are organized. A hajón Kenesére érkező Szécheni István ekkor avatte fel a Clark Ádám által tervezett, fából épített kikötőt. A balatoni gőzhajózás egyik kezdeményezője, anyagi támogatója gróf Széchenyi István volt. 1846. április 2-án Balatoni gőzhajózás címmel megjelent röpiratában is kiállt a „magyar tengeren” való gőzhajózás megindítása mellett. 1842-ben, egy füredi nyaralása során Kossuth Lajos is felvetette a balatoni hajózás ügyét. A Balaton Gőzhajózási Társaság 1846 áprilisában tartotta meg első közgyűlését, amelynek Kossuth javaslatára Széchenyi István lett az örökös elnöke. Az első gőzhajó törzsét az Óbudai Hajógyárban építették, a hozzá való gőzgépet pedig az angliai Penn gyárból hozatták; a Balaton költője után Kisfaludy névre keresztelték. A Kisfaludy 300 utas szállítására volt alkalmas. I. osztályú termét Széchenyi felesége, Crescence ízlése szerint alakították ki: fehér és arany belső burkolattal, mahagóni oszlopokkal, tükrökkel díszítve. Ebédlőterem és könyvtár is volt a hajón. Hosszú ideig a Kisfaludy volt az egyetlen gőzös a Balatonon, csak 1872 után lett párja, az akkor alakult Zala-Somogyi Gőzhajózási Társulat hajója, a Balaton, amely már nem lapátkerekekkel, hanem csavarhajtással működött. A balatoni gőzhajók száma 1888 után szaporodott meg látványosan, amikor létrejött a Balatontavi Gőzhajózási Részvénytársaság. |
