Description
English: Pictured is HMS Northumberland at dawn, carrying out Naval Gunfire Support (NGS) live firing on to 'targets' as directed by spotters ashore using her 4.5' gun.

Aft of her gun can be seen her Sea Ceptor Surface to Air Missile silos.

All Royal Navy frigates and destroyers are fitted with a 4.5-inch (114mm) gun and one of its roles (NGS) is to provide fire support to troops ashore.

Exercise Trident Juncture 18 which took place off the Norwegian coast in 2018.

The multinational NATO exercise included warships from as far away as Turkey and the United States.
