Description

Está construida sobre el antiguo convento de trinitarios descalzos de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. Durante la guerra de la independencia el edificio fue prácticamente destruido y se procedió a su re-edificación En 1922 el edificio fue derribado porque amenaza ruina, y en 1927 se empezó a construir el actual En 1967,San­tiago Padrón, cubre el Altar Mayor de mosaicos con diversos motivos artísticos, ángeles en actitud de adoración, los fundadores franciscanos y otros santos

En la parte alta del presbiterio se encuentra el camarín donde se venera la famosa imagen del Cristo de Medinaceli Se cree que fue tallada en la primera mitad del siglo XVII en Sevilla, y llevada por los Capuchinos a Marruecos, para culto de los soldados españoles. En 1681, la talla cae prisionera de los moros, y la rescatan los Trinitarios trasladandola a Madrid 1682. 

Llega con fama de milagrosa. Ese mismo año se organiza la primera procesión a la que asiste el "todo Madrid", pueblo fiel, nobleza y casa real.

Desde entonces todos los años, en la gran romería del primer Viernes de marzo, asiste algún miembro de la familia Real
