Notes Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. See Julien Flety, Dictionnaire des reliures francais ayant exerce de 1800 a nos jours, 1988. Macchi states; first half century, Paris, Cahors (?), bound by Sarazin. At least three Sarazin binders are known: 1) Pierre François. Received in 1777, lived at rue Judas and moved to rue Mathurins in 1800 (É. Thoinan, Biographie, p. 390). In 1803 he was at Mathurins 329 and at n. 20 in 1809-1816 (E. Thoinan, Biographie, p. 390). In the 1815 Almanach he is styled Sarazin Père; 2) Sarazin fils. Worked at St. Jacques 95 in 1815; at Mathurins 20 in 1821, and from 1826-1847 at n. 140. In 1838 he dropped the "Fils"; 3) In july 1949 Léon Gruel informed C. Ramsden (French bookbinders, p. 184) of the existence of a Sarazin, Cahors binder, without any dates as to his activity.
