Description |
English: The "Blakely" was a four-masted schooner built at the Hall Brothers shipyard at Port Blakely, on Bainbridge Island. Starting in 1902, the vessel carried lumber for the Port Blakely Mill Company. The "Blakely" could carry as much as 900,000 board feet of lumber at a time. Loading and unloading generally took longer than the sea voyage. This photo, taken around 1904, shows the "Blakely" (foreground) and other lumber schooners at Port Blakely. A pile of lumber stands on deck of the "Blakely." Written on back of photograph: "1st vessel is the Blakely."
