Description |
On the morning of 5 February 1600, a decisive battle between Flemish mercenaries led by General Lekkerbeetje and French soldiers took place near s’Hertogenbosch. It was one of the most momentous encounters during the Eighty Years’ War. The Flemish peasants, whose commander died in battle, defeated the aristocratic French knights. The subject of the Battle of ‘Leckerbeetje’ was so popular that Vrancx painted it repeatedly.: (Extracted from Dorotheum). |
