| Description | A view of the commercial hall on Ion Mihalache and Ion Mincu. Ion Mihalache Boulevard used to be called May Day (Întâi Mai, ad lit. May First), but everybody called it May One (Unu Mai). The vegetable market behind the commercial hall was and is called May Day Market, and everybody calls it May One, because that's how Bucharesters speak. Now the boulevard has changed its name to Ion Mihalache, and the name May Day Boulevard has been reallocated to the street formerly known as Compozitorilor (Composers'), ten kilometers away. The vegetable market has kept its name; all of these with the obvious purpose of making out-of-towners feel lost in the metropolis. The tower with the conical roof is the May One Mushroom -- know you know. |
