Cave crystals covered in a black mineral called Manganese. Chunks of Manganese are visible below the crystals.

The black mineral seen here is Manganese. It is very common in Jewel Cave. Cave explorers and anyone who participates in Jewel's Wild Caving Tour get covered in Manganese. The mineral washes off skin, but permanently stains clothing. As it gets crushed it becomes very slippery.
