  • Caption continues: Inauguration of Jefferson Davis as President of the Confederate States of America, at Montgomery, Alabama, February 18, 1861. The above picture is a fac-simile of a photograph taken on the spot, while the audience were at prayer, and a few seconds after Mr. Davis had taken the Oath of Office, which was administered to him by Howell Cobb, President of the Confederate Senate. The time of the taking of the photograph was at one o'clock P.M., as the Capitol clock at the top of the picture will show.
  • Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1887 [i.e., 1888], by Matthew Tierney, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington, D.C.
  • Copyright stamp, date, and number appear at bottom left.
  • Exhibited: "The Civil War in America" at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., 2013-2014.
