Description |
English: A miner's hat This week’s #MuseumMonday object is familiar one, an M-S-A Topguard Miner’s Hat. Like many museum objects, its scars are a part of its story. These scratches, gouges, and greasy black deposits tell a tale of hard, dangerous work. The leather sweatband is stained and dirty; a label affixed to interior of the hat is edged with dust and faded with time. Underneath the light mount on the brim of the hat is sticker that reads: “ALLOUEZ #3” and on the side, the name “ANDY” is carved into the plastic. Upon closer inspection, the name “PATTY” has also been carved into the crown of the hat. It is likely that this hat was used by underground Calumet & Hecla workers. Who were these men? What stories would they have to tell? |
