Summary
[edit]DescriptionTitanic's life jacket.jpg |
English: This is a replica life jacket similar to those on the Titanic. There are only 14 Titanic lifejackets left in the world from a total of 3560 carried on board, with a few other pieces such as cork and canvas scraps joining them. Most of them are in private collectons. The last one sold at auction for $ 66,000, around £45,000.
It is made of a canvas-type linen covering cork. Unlike life jackets today, they are surprisingly heavy, however, they were very buoyant. Unfortunately, the design was such that when a someone fell or jumped from the ship, it was possible for the person's head to hit the cork and break his or her neck.
