Title
To Victory
Description
English: The symbolism of this poster is peculiar. The relative sizes of the two animals reinforces the image of Canada as a loyal but junior partner. The Churchillian cigar clenched in the lion's mouth was itself a symbol of British determination. The imperial beast carries a proper sword, the beaver's weapon is clearly improvised; the butt suggests it has been made from a sapling chewed down by Canada's national animal.
