Title |
Toy Soldier fragment from Winterton |
||
Description |
English: Lead alloy
Toy Soldier fragment. The hollow cast rear of the body of a horse with fur saddlecloth and a holstered carbine on its right side. A fragment of a scabbard for a sabre appears on the left side; this retains dark paint. The quality of the modelling suggests this to be a William Britains' figure at 1:32 or 54mm scale. It is uncertain whether the smooth white finish is a lead-derived patina; it is more likely that the horse is painted, and may represent the mount of a Scots Grey, the 2nd Dragoons, a unit depicted by one of the popular sets produced by Britains from circa 1897 until the 1950s. The legs are twisted or broken and the tail, front half of body and the rider are lost. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950. Length: 30.6mm, Height: 35.1mm, Thickness (body): 0.7mm, Weight: 20.27gms. |
