The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a true-color image of Tropical Storm Yvette off of the coast of northwestern Australia on December 21.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The first tropical cyclone of the 2016-2017 Australian region cyclone season formed off the Pilbara Coast on December 21, 2016. Named Tropical Cyclone Yvette, the storm kicked up heavy dust in Western Australia that same day as it moved towards land.

Although projected to strengthen substantially before making landfall near Christmas Day (December 25), Yvette battled heavy wind shear on the approach to land. By December 23 the storm had weakened to a tropical low, and final advisories were issued on the system.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite captured a true-color image of Tropical Storm Yvette off of the coast of northwestern Australia on December 21. At the time the image was captured the Tropical Storm Yvette was near peak strength and had a compact, round shape indicating wind shear was not yet directly affecting the system.
