Notes | Tunic of Colour-Sergeant Thomas Hilditch, 80th Regiment of Foot (1823-1914) Thomas Hilditch of Manchester, born in 1823, enlisted with the Queen’s 2nd Foot Regiment in 1842 but was bought out by his mother. In January 1843 he enlisted as a private with the 80th Regiment of Foot and he remained with the regiment until his final discharge in 1864 with the rank of colour-Sergeant. During this time he served in Sydney (June 1843), in India including service during the Sikh wars at the Battles of Moodkhee, Ferozeshak and Sobraon, in Burma and in Ireland. Following his discharge in 1864 he made his way to New Zealand and settled in Auckland. Initially living in Auckland City and later from 1884 in Northcote. He died in 1914 aged 81 years. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
