മലയാളം: ദ്രവങ്ങളിലടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്ന ഊർജ്ജത്തെ യാന്ത്രിക ഊർജ്ജമാക്കി മാറ്റാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ഉപാധിയാണ് ടർബൈൻ (Turbine). ചുറ്റുന്ന എന്നർത്ഥമുള്ള ടർബൊ എന്ന ലാറ്റിൻ പദത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ടർബൈൻ (ചുറ്റുന്ന വസ്തു) എന്ന പേര് ഉത്ഭവിച്ചത്. ടർബൈൻ വ്യൂഹത്തിലൂടെയുള്ള ദ്രവ പ്രവാഹം വ്യൂഹത്തിലെ റോട്ടറിൽ ഘടിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ബ്ലേഡ് അഥവാ ദലങ്ങളെ ചലിപ്പിച്ച് റോട്ടറെ കറക്കുന്നു.
ടർബൈനിലുപയോഗിക്കുന്ന മാധ്യമത്തെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി ടർബൈനുകളെ ജല ടർബൈൻ, നീരാവി ടർബൈൻ, വാതക ടർബൈൻ, കാറ്റ് (wind) ടർബൈൻ എന്നിങ്ങനെ നാലായി തരംതിരിക്കാം. ജല ടർബൈൻ പ്രധാനമായും വൈദ്യുതിയുടെ ഉത്പ്പാദനത്തിനായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. എങ്കിലും വൈദ്യുതിയുടെ മുഖ്യ ഉത്പ്പാദനം നീരാവി ടർബൈനുകളുടെ പ്രവർത്തനത്തിൽ കൂടിയാണ്. വൈദ്യുതോത്പ്പാദനം, വ്യവസായ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ, സമുദ്രത്തിൽ ക്കൂടി സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്ന വലിയ വാഹനങ്ങളുടെ നോദനം എന്നിവയ്ക്കായി നീരാവി ടർബൈനുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. ജെറ്റ് നോദനം മൂലം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന വിമാനങ്ങളിലാണ് വാതക ടർബൈനുകൾ പ്രധാനമായും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതുകൂടാതെ, വൈദ്യുതോത്പ്പാദന രംഗത്ത്, പീക്ക് ലോഡ് ആവശ്യങ്ങളെ (peak load demands) നേരിടുന്നതിനും, പ്രകൃതി വാതക വ്യവസായ മേഖലയിൽ വളരെ നീളം കൂടിയ പൈപ്പുകളിൽക്കൂടി പ്രകൃതി വാതകം പമ്പു ചെയ്യുന്നതിനും, വാതക ടർബൈനുകൾ ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്താറുണ്ട്. വൈദ്യുതോത്പ്പാദനത്തിന് കാറ്റിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഊർജ്ജം വഴി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന കാറ്റ് ടർബൈനുകളും അടുത്തകാലത്തു രൂപപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വീമാനത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ടർബൈനിന്റെ ദൃശ്യമാണിവിടെ ചേർത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. |
