Dit deel van Dordrecht was in de 17e eeuw een echte piratenbuurt! Laurens van Convent woonde er. Evenals Gerrit Callenburg. Laurens Jansz Schot. En Hubert Hugo. Veel van deze kapers kwamen later in dienst van de Stadhouder. Van Callenburg en Convent brachten het zelfs tot kapitein op het vlaggeschip van Michiel Adriaansz de Ruyter. De piratenschepen voor handel en koopvaart konden hierachter aan de Taankade worden afgemeerd. Die zag er natuurlijk in die tijd heel wat anders en smeriger uit dan nu. Tanen was tenslotte het behandelen van zeilen en touwen tegen rotting. This part of Dordrecht was a real pirate neighbourhood in the 17th century! Laurens van Convent lived there. As Gerrit Callenburg. Laurens Jansz Schot. And Hubert Hugo. Many of these hijackers were later employed by the governor. Callenburg and Convent brought it even to captain at the flagship of Michiel Adriaansz de Ruyter. The pirate ships for trade and sale could be moored to the quay Taankade in the background. In that time it looked nastier than now. The most buildings were used for treating sails and ropes from rotting. A nasty job! |
