Summary

[edit]
Description

The 1004 foot M/V Edwin H. Gott departs from the iron ore dock in Two Harbors, MN after taking on a massive load of taconite pellets on a gloomy fall day.

Despite her size, the Gott is able to maneuver in and out of that tight quarters of Two Harbors without the assistance of a tug boat.

In this shot, the Gott is just clearing the lighthouse at the end of the breakwater as her near sister, the Edgar B. Speer, is approaching Two Harbors to load. Two Harbors can only accomodate one 1000 foot vessel at a time, so the Speer was sailing up and down the shoreline waiting for the Gott to finish loading and depart.

These two vessels are very similar. One easy way to pick them out is their unloading equipment. The Gott sports a 280 foot self unloading boom, which was added to make the vessel more versatile. The Speer still uses the short "shuttle boom" from her stern.
