Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On July 26, 2023, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) acquired a true-color image of Typhoon Doksuri spinning in the South China Sea. At that time, wind and rain from the large and powerful storm impacting both the northern Philippines, and Taiwan.

Maximum sustained winds near the time of this image were estimated at 115 mph (185 km/h), which is the equivalent of a Category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Although extremely powerful and dangerous, the storm was on a weakening trend from its peak of 145 mph (233 km/h) on July 25 (Category 4).

Typhoon Doksuri (known in the Philippines as Egay) remained nearly stationary from late on July 25 and through much of July 26, battering the northern Philippines, especially the Babuyan Islands just north of Luzon, where it made landfall on two separate islands before travelling northwest and taking aim at the southeastern coast of China. After passing very close to the western coast of Taiwan, Doksuri made landfall near Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China on July 28 while carrying maximum sustained winds of around 115 mph (185 km/h). Once over land, the storm quickly lost strength, leading the Joint Typhoon Warning Center to issue the last advisory on the storm on July 28.
