Description

Black and white photograph of the man 'Westphalen,' described by the pathologist Rudolf Virchow in a paper read before the Berlin Medical Society, 16 January 1889, as a typical case of acromegaly. This man exhibited himself in London at the Royal Music Hall in 1890 under the name Goliath, and was shown that year at the Pathological Society, London. Presented to the Museum by Alfredo Antunes Kanthack, MD, Pathologisches Institut, Berlin.
