SECTIONS OF LEAD-TUNGSTATE SCINTILLATOR CRYSTALS IN A SUPPORT FRAME FOR THE PRIMAKOFF EXPERIMENT (PRIMEX) IN HALL B AT THOMAS JEFFERSON NATIONAL ACCELERATOR FACILITY. The Jefferson lab is built for nuclear physics research. Scientists use superconducting electron accelerating technology at the lab's Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) to conduct experiments. High energy electron beams from the accelerator allows scientists to probe the atoms nuclear, reveling how quarks make up protons, neutrons, and the nucleus itself.
