English: A multi-national force of navy ships underway in a bilateral formation, steaming to participate in the first Western Pacific Mine Countermeasure Exercise. Sponsored by the Republic of Singapore, Mine Countermeasures Forces (MCM) from 15 participating countries have an opportunity to train in combined operations using realistic MCM scenarios. Pictured left-to-right are the US Navy (USN) Avenger class: Mine Countermeasures Vessel, USS Guardian (MCM-5) and USS Patriot (MCM-7), the USN Iwo Jima class: Amphibious Assault Ship (MCS), USS Inchon (MCS-12), the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Uraga class: Minesweeper Support Ship, Bungo (MST-464), and the JMSDF Yaeyama class: Minehunter/Sweeper-Ocean, Yaeyama (MSO-301). |
