Summary

[edit]
Description The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Stewart (DD-224) under tow on 24 May 1946, just before she was expended as a target. Note that her Japanese radar antennas have been removed from atop the ship's pilothouse and abaft her foremast. The Japanese flag painted amidships reflects Stewarts 1943-1945 service as the Japanese Navy's Patrol Boat 102. She was recovered by the U.S. Navy after the end of World War II and recommissioned as USS DD-224 for the voyage back to the United States.
