The remains are to be transported to the U. S. Army’s Central Identification Laboratory, Hawaii (CILHI). Since 1996, there have been 24 joint-service recovery operations into North Korea with their South Korean counterparts. Teams from a 28-person contingent composed of CILHI personnel recovered the remains while in North Korea on the second joint recovery operation into the country this year. Three of the remains were recovered from the Chosin Reservoir area and the other five from along the Chong Chon River some 60 miles north of Pyongyang, a site of battles between Communist forces and the U. S. Army's 1st Cavalry and 25th Infantry Divisions in November 1950. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 1st Class William R. Goodwin. (RELEASED)
