Description
English: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (Oct. 11, 2002) -- Mexican Naval Attaché, Rear Adm. Juan Morales (left) discusses the condition of the decommissioned amphibious tank landing ship Frederick with U.S. Navy Cmdr. Brian T. Smith, the ship’s last commanding officer (far right) and Mexican Navy Capt. Salvado Miranda Orendain, Executive Officer of the Mexican sailing ship “Cuauhtemoc” on ex-Frederick's bridge. Morales and his staff toured the Frederick on behalf of the Mexican Navy who plans to purchase the ship. The U.S. Navy recently decommissioned the ship, the sixth of 20 such Newport-class tank landing ships, after 33 years of distinguished naval service during a ceremony held aboard Naval Station Pearl Harbor.
