After a successful combat cruise to the Arabian Gulf, thousands of friends and family members greeted the crew of USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) when the aircraft carrier returned to its homeport of Mayport, Fla., Dec. 13. While operating in the Navy's Fifth Fleet area of responsibility, the JFK and the aircraft squadrons of Carrier Air Wing 17 supported Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. Before leaving the region, they provided critical air support for coalition ground troops as part of Al Fajr operations in Fallujah, Iraq. Following the six-month deployment, the crew will take time off for the holidays and continue sustainment operations as part of the Navy's new Fleet Response Plan until April 2005.
