Description
English: Persian Gulf (Jan. 20, 2005) - Photographer's Mate 3rd Class Paul Taylor, assigned to the "Swordsmen" of Fighter Squadron Three Two (VF-32), runs a system check on the Low Altitude Navigation Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN) pod in the cockpit of an F-14B Tomcat during a no-fly day aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). LANTIRN consists of a targeting and navigational pod integrated and mounted externally beneath the aircraft and it significantly increases the combat effectiveness of these aircraft, allowing them to fly at low altitudes, at night and under-the-weather to attack ground targets with a variety of precision-guided and unguided weapons. Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW-3) is embarked aboard Truman and is providing close air support and conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions over Iraq. The Truman Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Ricardo J. Reyes (RELEASED)
