English: Pascagoula, Miss. (Jan. 24, 2005) - A Seabee, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One (NMCB-1), weighs a water truck prior to staging the vehicle at the Port of Pascagoula, Miss. The vehicle is just one piece among 1,200 tons of equipment and supplies that will be on loaded to the amphibious assault ship USS Saipan (LHA 2) in Pascagoula. Saipan is stopping briefly at the Bayou Casotte East Harbor to embark a detachment of Seabees and equipment that will be used to support humanitarian assistance to Haiti. The Saipan is the lead ship in the USS Saipan Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) that departed Norfolk, Va., on Jan. 19, for a two-month deployment to the Caribbean. In addition to supporting humanitarian efforts in the region, elements of the strike group will conduct maritime interdiction operations training aimed at enhancing U.S. counter-drug detection and monitoring capabilities in the Caribbean, and participate in multinational exercises with marine forces from Honduras and Columbia.
