Description
English: Arlington, Va. (Mar. 24, 2005) - Tomb Guard Pfc. Michael Steiner marches behind the Tomb of the Unknowns during his 21-step march at Arlington National Cemetery, Va. Twenty-one steps was chosen because it symbolizes the highest military honor that can be bestowed, the 21-gun salute. The Tomb of the Unknowns is guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and in any weather by Tomb Guard sentinels. The sentinels, all volunteers, are considered to be the best of the 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard), headquartered at Fort Myer, Va. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Daniel J.
