Image title | On March 7, Navy, Coast Guard and State of Hawai'i personnel participated in a joint Worst Case Discharge Exercise named Kahu I Ke Kai 2007 at the Clean Island Council's Hawaii Oil Spill Response Center on Sand Island. The exercise was designed to provide a professional development opportunity to manage a Joint Information Center using the National Incident Management system (NIMS) structure designed to respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters, and other domestic emergencies. Organizations are required to adopt and implement procedures consistent with NIMS to ensure alignment to provide or receive emergency response support from State and local first responders. The exercise simulated a major fuel spill on Naval Station Pearl Harbor, which required a response effort among Navy, Coast Guard, State, and Clean Island Council. (Photo by MCC(SW/AW) David Rush |
