The MH-53E is capable of transporting up to 55 persons and carry a 16 ton payload 50 nautical miles and 10 ton payload 500 nautical miles. U.S. Southern Command diverted WASP from an international maritime exercise in Panama to the coast of Nicaragua September 5, 2007 to assist with disaster relief efforts in areas affected by Hurricane Felix.
