English: NORCO, Calif. (Aug. 19, 2010) Samuel Lam, and engineer at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Corona Division, briefs colleagues on self-sustained solar power array for a pair of gunnery range microwave relay towers. The system, consisting of a retractable metal framework to safely support photovoltaic panels and long-lasting lithium-ion batteries to reduce maintenance costs, are to be installed in an environment plagued by saltwater corrosion, gale-force winds and extreme temperatures. The system will be mocked up at NSWC Corona in advance to minimize training schedule impact during installation at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, N.C.
