James Preece heavy duty umbrella; machine stitched black sateen cotton cloth cover; with wooden shank (painted black) and shaped at lower end to resemble bamboo; wooden ribs under cloth, metal spreaders, bone hand grip and brass ferrule, cap and slide (ring)

Notes "Two umbrellas brought from England in 1833 by the Rev. James Preece " Received into the museum through the Kenderdine family. Eliza Jane Preece (1836 - 1910) was the second daughter of James and Mary Ann Preece married Dr Thomas Brutton Kenderdine (1828 - 1894) at St Paul's Church Auckland in 1859. There were nine sons and two daughters.
