Description
English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented. Improvement of tulips: three methods are shown, two where man interferes with nature and two where nature makes its own varieties. Meant is cross-fertilization through artificial fertilization or X-ray treatment and natural mutation, where flowers with a deviant form and/or colour arise spontaneously, which are used to breed more. SHOTS: - In gardens and bulb fields the tulips are in bloom; pickers take the flowers away; - in a test greenhouse the tulips are crossed: with a fine brush pollen is transferred from one species to the gynoecium of another species; - the seeds that evolve out of that are set into container and for now will only become blades; elsewhere on the field the result of a cross-fertilization done five years ago is now visible: a new tulip variety has come into being; - in a laboratory in Amsterdam tulip bulbs are radiated using an X-ray tube; - the visible result is shown: a radiated and a non-radiated tulip are shown; - in a field of tulips one tulip has a different colour scheme.
Nederlands: Bioscoopjournaals waarin Nederlandse onderwerpen van een bepaalde week worden gepresenteerd. Veredeling van tulpen: drie methodes worden getoond, twee waarbij de mens ingrijpt in de natuur en één waarbij de natuur zélf voor nieuwe variëteiten zorgt. Gedoeld wordt op kruising van soorten dmv kunstmatige bevruchting of Röntgenbestraling en natuurlijke mutatie waarbij spontaan bloemen met afwijkende vorm en/of kleur ontstaan waarmee verder kan worden gekweekt. SHOTS: - In tuinen en bollenvelden staan de tulpen in bloei; plukkers halen de bloemen weg; - in een proefkas worden tulpen gekruist: met een fijn penseeltje wordt stuifmeel van de ene soort overgebracht op de stamper van een andere soort; - de daaruit tot ontwikkeling komende zaden worden in een bak uitgezaaid en groeien voorlopig eerst uit tot alleen maar sprieten; elders wordt op het veld het resultaat zichtbaar van een kruisingsproef van vijf jaar geleden: een nieuwe tulpenvariëteit is ontstaan; - in een laboratorium in Amsterdam worden tulpenbollen bestraald met een Röntgenbuis; - het zichtbare resultaat daarvan wordt getoond: een bestraalde en een onbestraalde tulp worden in beeld gebracht; - in een veld tulpen staat één exemplaar met een afwijkende kleurstelling. Tulpen in tuinen, kassen en bloemenvelden.
