Summary

[edit]
Description

Sun Yat-sen, known in the PRC as Sun Zhongshan, is buried in Nanjing, and his coffin is in a mausoleum atop a hill.

Sun Yat-sen was the first leader of China after the last Emperor was overthrown. Since the Communists only started fighting the Nationalists (led by Chiang Kai-shek) after his death, he has the distinction of being the only ex-leader of China who's respected by both the PRC and Taiwanese governments.

One interesting thing about the inside of his tomb is that the ceiling is painted with the white sun of the KMT, which you'll rarely see in any official capacity elsewhere on the mainland.
