Description
English: This panorama picture shows the construction site of ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) at Cerro Armazones, in the dry Chilean desert. The image, taken in May 2023, brings us inside the main structure, under construction, between cranes and scaffolding, steel structures and reinforced concrete, where one day the telescope and its instruments will reside. The presence of vehicles and people working help us to have an idea of how huge the telescope will be. Visible here as the external walls in reinforced concrete, the telescope enclosure will be about 80 metres high from the ground and have a diameter of about 88 metres.Enjoy also our exciting [/public/products/virtualtours/ Virtual Tours].
