Summary[edit]

Description
English: Virgin and child. Probably East Timor, 19th century. Wood, pigments. This unusual image shows the Virgin Mary standing with the boy Christ. This specific arrangement may be a local artist's interpretation of a Western sculpture. Timorese sculptors may have seen Medieval works in prints or books.
