—Albrecht Dürer.
Notes Dürer entwarf die Zeichnung auf einen Holzstock und schickte diesen an Behaim. Letzterer indessen verlangte einige Änderungen an der Zeichnung, das Laubwerk ("dy leuble auff dem heim vber sich werfen") gefiel ihm nicht. D.h. er solle das ornamentale Beiwerk nach oben zurückschlagen, wohl verstehen. Aber Dürer geht auf den Wunsch des Bestellers nicht ein. Auf die Rückseite des Holzstockes schreibt er kurz und bündig seine Antwort, Behaim gibt sich zufrieden und der Holzstock wird nach der ersten Zeichnung geschnitten.
