Summary[edit]
DescriptionWe figure out who we are and we aren't quite anywhere - andrew yoon.webm |
English: algorithmic processes examine a body of texts and derive statistical relationships between words. dice are rolled on these probabilities, generating new text which uses the same words but in ever surprising ways. the individual words lose their significance: meaning is blurred together to the point where we don't know when one thing stops and the other starts.
a piano part is improvised within pre-composed guidelines. lydian without a sixth degree. the same note almost always in the bass. thirds and sixths higher up. major sevenths. a melodic figure or two. flowing drones. a surprise? the text and piano do not deliberately interact – they simply coexist, not trying to convince each other of anything in particular. for full program information and a complete listing of the source text materials used to generate the text spoken in this performance, see this link to the program pdf: http://www.andrewjyoon.com/s/we-figure-out-who-we-are-program.pdf speakers: tom forletti calvin temoshok caroline homer piano: andrew yoon This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License by Andrew Yoon.
