Summary[edit]

Description

When we walked toward the entrance of the Ryes War Cemetery we heard a song being sung. It was carried by the wind and filled the surroundings.

It turned out to be a Welsh veteran who sung the Welsh anthem for a fallen comrade. He told us that during a fight his mate was wounded and when he tried to help him he was urged to go forward by his CO. He never knew what had become of his mate until after the war he heard that he had died.

This was a very poignant moment and very moving. Sadly these moments will become increasingly rare as the years progress...
