Description iconographique:

Le peintre William Bouguereau (1825-1905) est photographié en train de peindre son tableau "Compassion" (Salon de 1897). Au premier plan, de dos, un modèle pose pour la figure de l'homme portant sa croix. Sur la gauche, une porte-fenêtre dévoile une autre pièce de l'atelier et reflète la verrière sous laquelle travaille le peintre. Commentaire historique:
