William Howard Gardiner. Buffalo Evening News Washington Bureau. New York; June 23, 1952. William Howard Gardiner, 78 publicist and advocate of the importance of sea power in world affairs died here Saturday. As early as 1928 Mr. Gardiner stated his belief that “America will inevitably become the greatest sea power in the world.” In that same year he became president of the Navy League composed of private citizens who fought to bring the Navy up to parity with other world powers. Mr. Gardiner remained as head of the Navy League until 1933 and resigned from the group in 1935. But he continued to act as a watchdog of the fleet and in World War II was a consultant on global both at the White House and Department of State.
