Notes Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. Macchi states; At least three binders of this name are known: 1) Charles. The Almanachs show him at rue Marais 17 bis from 1835 and at rue du Bac 68 from 1840-1849 of Le Saphir, 1832 in full morocco gilt in the C. Ramsden collection may have been bound in that year. He was an excellent craftsman; 2) gilder. Working at rue de la Seine 16 between 1832-1840; 3) Jeune. The binder Dubois d'Enghien, Heer-sur-Meuse, Belgium quotes a binding (c.1820) on a work dated 1813 with a paper label: "A la Providence/Blaise Jeune/relieur/Quai des Augustins/a Paris" (C. Ramsden, French Bookbinders, p. 35).
