Ship identification

[edit]

The large foreground ship has a funnel mark of Anthony Veder. It would appear to be either the Prins Willem van Oranje (yard number 290)[1], or Prins Willem II (yard number 294)[2], both built in 1938 for Maatschappij Zeatransport and managed by Anthony Veder. Another possibility is the Taborfjell (yard number 278), built in 1936 but sold to Maatschappij Zeatransport / Anthony Veder in late 1937 and renamed Prins Frederik Hendrik,[3] but not sure why it would have the Veder funnel mark in the building yard in that case, unless it was back for repairs later on. Photos of that one also had "HOLLAND" written on the side, so likely not that ship. But so far, can't find any distinguishing marks between the first two ships given available photos.

The ship behind it does not appear to have been built at the shipyard, at least not around that time -- the mast style is completely different. The funnel mark may be that of owner A/S Standard / manager J. B. Stang , but not sure. The yard did build a ship for them around that time, the Stalheim (yard 277) but it's not the same ship. Given the list here, it would be either the Star (built 1923)[4] or the Standard (built 1930)[5]. Carl Lindberg (talk) 01:37, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
