The title is a barbarism in french

and ought to be (as written on the post-card) "Amies de pension" (Pension friends).

The doggerel verses explain that "The husband, to be very quiet, had taken (for wife) a virgin - & went away to hunt -and in the meantime, his wife, a fair-faced little lady, readily began burning a taper on his behalf (with her pension friend)..." .
