Professor or not[edit]

We are quite sure that Mr. Klum is not a Professor by title. He has long been a teacher at Upsala University (popularly called "professor" perhaps because of that), but with the Swedish title of docent which translates into Senior Lecturer in British English and Associate Professor (who in fact does not hold the title of Professor) in American English. I am reverting this once again even though I do not like the idea of an edit war on this subject. In my opinion, only legitimate Professors (by official title) should be categorized as such and it would be a disservice to Klum's excellent reputation as an educator to categorize him incorrectly here. One would refer to him in English as Mr. Klum or Arne Klum, Esq., but not as Professor Klum. Anyone who has a source naming Klum as a Professor by title: please feel free to correct me! According to my knowledge, he was professor at Åbo Akademi (not Turku University) in the eighties. Do you claim that he was not? --Zejo (talk) 10:45, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We know that he has never been called "Professor Klum" in Sweden, where he has had almost all of his teaching career. If he had been officially promoted to Professor in Finland, he would have been called "Professor Klum" all over from that date. Thus is it safe to assume that the assignment you mention at Turku Academy (Åbo is Swedish, not English, that's why I wrote Turku) was a substitution in a professorial position or some such work, which did not involve his promotion to the title in such a way that it would be proper to call him a professor. A professor is always referred to as "Professor [Name]". Klum never is. It is likely to embarrass him if we start doing so without it being official. If you read Swedish, why don't you read that one Google notice about his Turku assignment and see what you think it is safe to assume? We have to be extra careful not to call any living person anything that he or she is not. EmilEikS (talk) 18:39, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
