Gibraltar[編輯]

Gib is an overseas territory, however unlike other territories, the people living there are British citizens with a right to vote in the referendum. Gib is part of Europe and should be shown in this map as a part of the UK in Europe. -- (留言) 09:26, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Gibraltar is not part of the UK. All citizens of all overseas territories are British citizens, and also European citizens. However, only British or Irish citizens resident of the UK or Gibraltar, or British citizens living overseas who had been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years, were entitled to vote in the referendum. So a Falklander who resides in the UK could vote. Gibraltar is, for the purposes of the EU, part of the UK. But this map is principally for locating the UK within Europe/the world, not specifying that the country is an EU member state. Gibraltar is definitely not part of the UK for the purposes of domestic governance. It is largely self-governing. If there is a need for a file which shows both Gibraltar and the UK in the EU, upload it at a different title. This map is used primarily as the location map at W:United Kingdom. Are you confusing citizens with British subjects? Source please. :-) -- (留言) 12:11, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[回覆]
Nope:
Any person who, immediately before the commencement of this section, is a British overseas territories citizen shall, on the commencement of this section, become a British citizen.

Thanks. That's a reasonable general statement, however Gibraltar is different to other overseas territories, as uniquely it joined the European Economic Community in 1973. Gibraltar is solely responsible for the transposition of EU law into local law. Under the Maastricht Treaty, Gibraltarians are European Union citizens. See Special_member_state_territories_and_the_European_Union#Gibraltar. Based on this unique status, I still believe that the map of the UK within Europe correctly should include Gibraltar, and it appears strangely misleading if the map chooses to ignore it. -- (留言) 16:13, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[回覆]
Not on the UK's article because like I said, the primary purpose of that map is to locate the UK. It would be misleading as the reader might assume Gibraltar is part of the UK. The overseas territories are intentionally not mentioned at all in the infobox, and the matter has been discussed. I don't see how it is misleading to exclude it. Like you say, Gibraltar itself is responsible for implementing EU law. The only reason it is considered part of South East England is for budgeting and parliament elections. Also like I said, all citizens of a current British Overseas Territory are now British citizens and therefore EU citizens.
