- Actually, sharrow could only have the vowel of share in a Mary-marry-merry-merging dialect. The spelling "sharrow" necessitates /ˈʃæɹoʊ/ being the pronunciation in any dialect that does not have that merger. The pronunciation section at Wiktionary also gives /ˈʃæɹəʊ/ and /ˈʃæɹoʊ/ as the pronunciations.
- In other dictionaries that have this word in it and are not limited to merged pronunciations, the pronunciation that they give for this word is /ˈʃæɹoʊ/ / /ˈʃæɹəʊ/ / /ˈʃarəʊ/.
- If someone wishes to make an audio file which demonstrates how the word is pronounced in a dialect which doesn't distinguish marry-type and merry-type words from Mary-type words, they obviously are free to do so, of course. We have cot-caught-merging audio files and hurry-furry merging audio files to demonstrate those mergers. Tharthan (talk) 18:45, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
