I strongly suggest until this gets fixed, we use Image:Flag of Mexico.png. Zscout370 20:26, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"gets fixed" meaning what — making the center emblem next to flawless? ¦ Reisio 00:57, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That is my main issue with the flag. Mainly just a change of colors, and some cloning of smiliar objects. Zscout370 01:46, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Objections answered with new drawing. Zach (Smack Back) 21:22, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, now it's just an exact duplicate of Image:Flag of Mexico.png, encoded as SVG. I guess you can use it in articles ... it's no worse than the PNG version. But it should be turned into actual SVG at some point. User:dbenbenn 23:07, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm...I am not sure how he did that, but I will take a crack at it. Zach (Smack Back) 07:26, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My only issue is with the coat of arms. There are so many little elements and it is hard to make them all right. Also, I am not sure what Pantone colors are stated for the Eagle, since all I know is the three main base colors of the green, white and red. Zach (Smack Back) 07:39, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The design of the Coat of Arms is totally unaccurate, with a poor drawing and with the wrong colors. I also believe that is better to keep using the Flag of Mexico.png file until I can get the author of the PNG file to make an SVG file if that's really what Wikipedia is asking us to do. I don't see the point of keeping the SVG file as the default image for the flag of Mexico when we know it's not accurate. We do have an accurate file, the PNG one.

I'll ask him too, since I got him on M$N Messenger. I can trace his Coat of Arms image into Inkscape and have a good versions of the arms, but in a trade off, the image is going to be nearly 6 Megabytes. Zach (Smack Back) 22:59, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent job you did here Zscout, the coat of arms now looks a lot better than before.

AlexCovarrubias 05:42, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here is what I did: I took the coat of arms appart in w:GIMP. I made it into three different parts: the wreath (with the ribbon attached), the nopal on the stone and the eagle and serprent. While I do apologize for the serpent having no eye, but that should be relatively minor. Ok, back the story: I imported the three different elements, traced them into SVG paths, and just made everything align and proportionally correct. Thanks and I hope this should be it for the SVG issues for this flag. Zach (Smack Back) 06:50, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

National Coat of Arms in the Flag Image[edit]

I don't know why you guys are sttubornly reverting the image to that one presenting a TOTALLY WRONG designed and colored National Coat of Arms of Mexico if we already have a very very close version to the Official one. Please keep in mind this site was created to provide the MOST ACCURATE information about every topic. I reverted the flag image. AlexCovarrubias 23:04, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again, I reverted the flag image because of the same reason I expressed in the comment above. AlexCovarrubias 00:32, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In an e-mail I received from the author of xrmap, he states the following about your version of the Mexican flag:
The recently reverted version of the Mexico flag
1) yields errors on my Linux box [with recent inkscape version 0.43] --
   though non fatal
2) still contains Adobe Illustrator junk (emebedded or encrypted metadata ?)

I enclose a version which is essentally identical visually, but loads OK,
at least on my machine. The file is bigger because it uses 5 digits
accuracy instead of 3 (but this could maybe be reduced safely to 3.)
Please leave the image as the author of xrmap drew it, please. -- Denelson83 07:56, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is interesting that he is the only person having troubles with the file. I think it is not right to display a totally wrong drawn and colored Coat of Arms, because we already have a better one that looks exactly as the Official one. This other file uploaded by Denelson83 looks like a cartoon and me as a Mexican find it offensive, because again, we already have a better drawn. AlexCovarrubias 08:04, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Denelson83, I was wondering if this person you mention in your message know anything about SVG. May be I can send him the original drawn (PNG file) of the Coat of Arms to convert it to SVG and fix the flag. Do you think it is a good idea? AlexCovarrubias 08:06, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

COPYRIGHT OR LICENSING[edit]

There seems to be no copyright or licensing information here. Under Permissions it says "See Below" but nothing seems relevant below. I know Mexico keeps tight controls over their flag and generally prohibits its use for anything other than official uses. Seems like some CC-license is needed here or a reason this flag image is available for downloading here.
