Hello

[编辑]

This flag https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Serbia_(1281).svg is WP:OR, explained on talk page, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Flag_of_Serbia#Flag_of_Stefan_Vladislav it should be deleted. We have a problem with it on the English wikipedia, they keep bringing it back. Edit war lasts 4 years with that flag. look here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Flag_of_Serbia&action=history https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kingdom_of_Serbia_(medieval)&action=history https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stefan_Vladislav&action=history https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Serbian_flags&action=history78.1.7.81 23:52, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[回复]

If this look of the flag is widely or by important persons believed to be a good representation of what the flag might have looked like, then it is in scope for Commons and should be kept for those who wish to use it (hopefully in a context that is not misleading). Only if this is original research in the sense that only the uploader and a minor group of non-scholars believe the flag might have looked approximately like this, then it might be deemed out of scope as irrelevant fantasy flag. As long as it is used in some Wikipedia article, it should be kept, and it is present in dozens of Wikipedia articles in fourteen Wikipedias, so deletion will be very unlikely. The expertise on the facts lies in the Wikipedia editor base so Commons should not overrule Wikipedias. –LPfi (留言) 09:05, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[回复]

@Achim55, LPfi, Jeff G., Jdforrester, Missvain, and Minorax: The sources which exist the not talk about existing flag nor do they reconstruct it. Sources only mentioned the fabric with red and blue color. No appearance of that fabric is mentioned or arrangement of those colors and in what form. What we have now is a modern reconstruction by an anonymous person based on that source from 13th century(fabric with red and blue color). However, as you can clearly see, the template for this flag is the modern Serbian flag. Mikola22 (留言) 08:54, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[回复]

As pointed out here and in the two deletion requests, the file is in use in Wikipedia articles. You can add a warning template ({{Fact disputed}}) about it not necessarily being an accurate representation of the historic flag, but as I said above, evaluating what sources say and how they correspond to the file is up to Wikipedias. We should not try to overrule them here. The edit war on English Wikipedia can be solved by adding a local version of the file there, with some appropriate text instead of or in addition to the flag image. –LPfi (留言) 10:12, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[回复]
The sources say nothing about the flag. The sources mention the fabric and two color on that fabric, i.e. the flag. That's it. While an anonymous person uses these sources and draws a flag with a red and blue field apparently using the modern Serbian flag as a source. It has nothing to do with the English, etc Wikipedia. He has put his personal work here and everyone is picking it up from here. This flag has been removed from many English wiki articles. If it gets removed from the English wiki, it will remain on the Bulgarian wiki, if it is removed from the Bulgarian wiki, it will remain on the Serbian wiki. If it is removed from the Serbian wiki someone will repost it on the English wiki, etc, etc, etc. And so it goes round and round. But all editors take that flag from here. The title of this file says it all, "Flag of Serbia (1281)". Mikola22 (留言) 13:45, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[回复]
